Lower numbers when tired

Postby not so sure on Fri Nov 20, 2009 5:36 pm

Anybody have any ideas? If i am extremely tired my ahi is about .5 to .8. If i am not that tired my numbers are in the 1.5 to 2.5 range. A while back i was under quite a bit stress during the day and don,t think slept at all that night and my ahi was 2.5, there was a lot of OA,s and i am sure i was awake then.

Hmmmm, maybe on the nights where your AHI is lower, you are not getting enough deep sleep or REM? Most apnea events happen when you are in REM. If that is the case, then it would explain why you are tired by your numbers are better.

Also perhaps when you're tired you sleep more peacefully, and when you're not as tired, you move more in your sleep, and some of the movement could result in your machine picking this up as an apnea. I'm not saying this right, but I think machines can pick up some movements as false apneas.

Can you remember any difference in caffeine/alcohol on the tired/not-tired nights?

I think you have this confused with a similarly-named thread, "Lower numbers when Wired."

Do you have any limb movement issues? Just asking because it seems the better my OSA is treated, the worse my Periodic Limb Movements Disorder seems to act. If anything affects your sleep stages, like pain or medications, tiredness can persist with even the best numbers. Sometimes it's a process of elimination, starting with being sure the OSA treatment is effective. Best wishes in finding answers.

I used to resent having to take time out of life to sleep. If I'd known sleep would become such a rare commodity, I would have treasured it more, lingering in it's warm embrace instead of pushing it aside to rush into another busy day.

'Not so Sure' is not alone in this. If I work really hard during a day, and then go to bed physically tired, I usually have a good night's sleep with low numbers. Haven't figured out why.
